Annual Disability Awareness Day Expo and Forum

As Diversity Partners, a common interest that we share is creating inclusive workplaces that are welcoming and supportive to everyone. Ironically, the challenge for us is often knowing where we can easily access the information and resources we need in order to be successful. This is especially true right now for those of us with federal contracts because recent changes to Section 503 and VEVRAA regulations place greater onus on companies to have these answers.

The public announcement below was contributed by Sandra Sroka, ADA Coordinator for Hillsborough County, who recently took the time to share this information at our Tampa Bay Chapter meeting. This is a great event for Diversity Council members, especially Federal Contractors, to not only learn about assistive technology, but also to network and build connections that will support outreach efforts extended to qualified individuals (with disabilities) and protected veterans.

The 2014 Annual Disability Awareness Day Expo and Forum is a great event to learn about innovative programs, technology, and services which brings together over 250 persons with disabilities, equal access advocates, and elected officials to raise awareness about building access and breaking barriers for all. Services for veterans, vision, hearing and communication technologies to assist people with disabilities at the workplace, at home, or at play will be demonstrated, adapted toys for children with various disabilities, services in the event of a disaster, and much more.

During the local and state elected officials Forum, three disability advocacy awards recognizing outstanding leadership and contributions of individuals, businesses and youth in Hillsborough County will be presented.

The event is Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 9am-2pm with the Forum beginning at 10am. Exhibit and Sponsorship opportunities are available. For more details, please contact Sandra Sroka, ADA Coordinator at [email protected] or call 813-276-2742.
